Citizen Science is based on the principle that everyone who is interested can contribute to scientific research. Regardless of age, education or professional background. These so-called citizen scientists bring valuable experience and new perspectives to research and make an important contribution with their commitment. In return, they gain insights into research processes and, depending on the project, can acquire new skills, exchange ideas with like-minded people or learn more about a topic that is important to them.
Citizen Science entails the participation of the public in scientific research. Interested parties can be involved in various stages of the research process, from problem formulation to data collection, analysis, and dissemination of research results.
Citizen Science is an important element of Open Science. Citizens are given access to research and allowed to participate in order to ensure high-quality research.
Citizen Science Zurich promotes, coordinates and supports Citizen Science projects at the University of Zurich and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich. The Competence Center promotes pilot projects with an annual call for Seed Grants, offers consultations and provides various digital tools that simplify project implementation. Citizen Science Zurich also offers a wide range of courses and workshops to provide the basis for successful collaboration between citizens and researchers.
