What makes Data Stewardship successful and how can researchers benefit?
As research becomes increasingly data-driven, the need for professional support in managing, documenting, securing, and sharing research data continues to grow. Data Stewardship has emerged as a key approach to supporting researchers throughout the research lifecycle. Data Stewards help researchers with data management, data quality, documentation, the secure and compliant handling of sensitive data, and the implementation of FAIR and Open Science practices.
While Data Stewardship has gained considerable attention in recent years, approaches to its implementation vary widely across institutions and countries. Different organizational models, service portfolios, competencies, and infrastructures have evolved to address local needs and research contexts.
This workshop brings together international experts to exchange experiences and perspectives on Data Stewardship in higher education and research institutions. Through presentations and discussions, participants will gain insights into established service models, practical use cases, and lessons learned from different institutional and national contexts.
Topics include:
- The benefits of Data Stewardship in supporting researchers and research projects
- Services, workflows, and use cases that have proven valuable in practice
- Organizational models and institutional integration of Data Stewardship services
- Required competencies, roles, and collaboration models
- Sustainable approaches and long-term impact of Data Stewardship initiatives
The workshop offers an opportunity for researchers, data stewards, research support professionals, and institutional leaders to learn from international experiences, discuss emerging best practices, and explore strategies for establishing and sustaining effective Data Stewardship services.
