During Research
Collecting New Data
- Survey tools offered by Central IT that follow data protection laws: LimeSurvey and Unipark
- Recruitment of participants: Z-Pool-Tool
- Using UZH’s technology platforms to collect data: Technology Platforms
Find and Reuse Existing Data
The Open Science Services offer you help in finding and reusing existing data.
Storing Data Safely and Securely
- Store and protect data on the institute server (incl. backup): All options by Central IT or get in touch with IT coordinator of your institute
- Store particularly sensitive data: UZH offers financial subsidies for the use of external services as there is currently no local solution:Secure Computing
- consulting in selecting an appropriate infrastructure for saving data: Science IT
Sharing Data with Others
Researchers at Swiss institutes can use SWITCHdrive to share their data and files with other researchers within Switzerland. To share personal or sensitive data, SWITCHfilesender can be used.
Please consult with Science IT for special cases: Science IT
Processing and Analysing Data
- Courses at the UZH on data analytics, statistics, etc.: Central IT
- Consultation on scientific computing and data science specific to data analysis: Science IT
- Support for the evaluation of audio and video data: Linguistic Research Infrastructure (LiRI)
- Digitization of text and images / working on digital editions: Center for Digital Editions
- Reproducibility in the research process: Center for Reproducible Science
Data Documentation
Good data documentation is essential for research reproducibility and data reusability. Data documentation provides information about the context, the structure, the provenance and the content of a dataset (or a file) with the aim to increase its usefulness.
Handling Personal Data
Participants give consent to collect, process and - potentially - also publish their data. If you use survey tools to collect data, these also have to adhere to legal requirements of data protection. Personal data must also be stored on a server that ensures only authorized access.
- Informed consent forms: The Data Protection Office of the UZH offers a template for informed consent forms.
- Surveys: UZH offers the tools Limesurvey and Unipark.
- Storage: The UZH central IT department provides UZH-internal servers for this purpose. Please contact your institute's IT responsible person for help or go directly to ScienceIT.
